The launch of the MEV-1 is slated for late 2018 as a co-passenger on a Proton-M Briz-M (Ph.4) rocket with in-orbit testing and demonstration to be performed with the Intelsat-901 satellite in the graveyard orrbit. It simultaneously took the next step in satellite operation by extending Intelsat 901’s lifetime beyond its original plan. I am your host Annie Wilson. Regular listeners may recall that we talked about MEV-1 on Daily Space about a month ago when the satellites made contact on February 25th. Hello, and welcome to the Daily Space for today Wednesday, April 22, 2020.

In late February, Northrop Grumman’s Mission Extension Vehicle MEV-1 autonomously docked with another satellite in geostationary orbit in space, making navigation history. MEV 1, 2 (Gunter’s Space Page) ISS captured a Starlink train above the southern lights. Basically, MEV-1 is designed to attach itself to a satellite that is out of propellant and act as its motors to keep it in the correct orientation. This testing is scheduled for completion by early 2019.

Thank you very much. It grew out of a spacecraft concept proposed in 2011 by ViviSat, a 50/50 joint venture of aerospace firms U.S. Space and ATK.The JV was created in 2010 for the purpose of designing, producing and operating the MEV-program. Thank you very much for visiting Gunter's Space Page. Please help to run the website and keep everything free of charge. The Mission Extension Vehicle (MEV) is a 2010s-design small-scale in-space satellite-refueling spacecraft that was first launched in 2019. Gunter Krebs, dipl.phys.

MEV 1, 2 (Gunter’s Space Page) Speaking of Intelsat, they recently announced that IS-901 is once again fully operational thanks to a little help from MEV-1. I hope that this site is useful and informative for you.
